Underwater Dogs: photographs of dogs under the water by Seth Casteel

These images are the handiwork of award winning photographer Seth Casteel, who has captured the moment the water dogs break through the surface of the water to stunning effect. The result is a collection of over 80 portraits, as Casteel seeks to capture a unique side to man’s best friend.  Here are a selection of those photographs including Rocco, who is a 7-year-old Boston terrier.

“My series of underwater photos, says Seth Casteel, show a side of dogs we never get to see. Through the course of shooting I have worked under water with more than 250 dogs. Most of the dogs featured in this book hadn’t been underwater until they met me, and some had never even been swimming!”

Based in Los Angeles and Chicago, Seth’s photography agency specialises in lifestyle pet photography, embracing the ‘at-ease’ mentality of pets on location in their natural surroundings.

“My goal is to tell the story of the dog I am photographing, and this particular dog, Buster the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (above), decided to turn our “on-land” photo shoot into an ‘in-the-pool’ shoot when he started jumping in over and over again in pursuit of his favorite tennis ball,” says Casteel. “I left, bought a little point-and-shoot underwater camera, zipped back and jumped in. The resulting photos were the beginning of my series of underwater dogs.
