A campaign going viral 8 years later

posted on March 28th 2015 in Photography & Social with 0 Comments

Eight years ago, Cordaid People in Need, the Cordaid brand that helps provide emergency aid, launched a campaign called “Small Change, Big Difference” (Kleingeld, Groot Verschil). Although this campaign hasn’t been promoted for eight years, the images are still out there, online. Given that this “old” campaign is now inadvertently going “viral”, I revisit the story behind it.

Photography as social speaker in Romania

posted on April 15th 2014 in Photography & Social with 0 Comments

Before that he was a marketing strategist in large companies and the truth is he doesn’t lose the opportunity to ‘sell’ his work. Images are for him a way to denounce the social problems. And he does not rule out using other, like politics. In his early works he traveled the world in search of conflicts such as Syria, but soon he realised he didn’t need to leave the borders of his country to find injustice. The measures that the French President at that time, Nicolas Sarkozy, took to deport Romanian Gypsies, made him see a conflict that, according to him, nobody was caring about. Now he devotes most of his time to them, to report the abuses they suffer and to do to activism to avoid them. Varzariu reviews here some of the most significant snapshots of his still short career as a reporter.
